Giant Killer

I think most everyone knows that David was known as the giant killer. He was a young guy when he went head to head (no pun intended) with Goliath of Gath. Evidently there were more giants in Gath where Goliath was from. In one particular battle, Goliath’s brother was killed by one of David’s men. In yet another battle, David’s nephew stepped up. Check this out….

In another battle with the Philistines at Gath, they encountered a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in all, who was also a descendant of the giants. But when he defied and taunted Israel, he was killed by Jonathan, the son of David’s brother Shimea.

These Philistines were descendants of the giants of Gath, but David and his warriors killed them. (1 Chronicles 20:6-8 NLT)

There was a movie made called “Facing the Giants” that dealt with the “giants” that we all sometimes face. Some of the giants that we face seem way too large. For example, I’ve faced the giant of financial ruin. I remember feeling like I was on the edge of a cliff several years ago and wondering how we would ever recover financially. I remember very clearly facing the giant of cancer when my son Jeremy beat cancer in 2012. It seems like forever ago when some of my giants are part of history.

I have learned through fighting my battles, that the One Who fights for me is the One Who actually wins any battle that I’m in.  It may look like all is lost and there is no way out. He makes a way where there doesn’t seem to be a way. He fights on my behalf. He is the Ultimate Giant killer.  My role in the battle is to trust Him. I should always be listening to Him. My journey in His Word clearly maps out His battle plan for me when I face giants.

I also loved Louie Giglio’s book called “Goliath Must Fall”.

It may look like I’m surrounded, but I’m surrounded by You. I may face some giants even today. I know that they are in my future, but I’m going to trust the Lord no matter what the giants look like or how big they are.

Pressing On!
