Famous

I have had the privilege of meeting people who are famous. I have met actors and politicians alike. I’ve found that they are human as I am. We have lots of similarities like eating food, sleeping, and getting dressed to take on a new day. They often have more money and possessions than I do, but we are still way more alike than we are different.

I used to want to be famous. I wanted a music career. I wanted to be on the speaking circuit. I wanted to be a song writer. I wanted to be an author. I wanted to be known and looked up too. I wanted my life to be about me!  The Lord changed my heart several years ago and I realized that the purpose of my life is to make Him famous – not me!

I came across a passage of scripture where Moses is quoting God to Pharoah. Pharoah is being stubborn about letting the people of Israel go into the wilderness for a time of worship. The Israelites were slaves to the Egyptians and Pharoah didn’t want that to change. He was warned but he was also given a purpose behind the plagues that were coming on him and his people. Check this out….

13 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh. Tell him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: Let my people go, so they can worship me. 14 If you don’t, I will send more plagues on you and your officials and your people. Then you will know that there is no one like me in all the earth. 15 By now I could have lifted my hand and struck you and your people with a plague to wipe you off the face of the earth. 16 But I have spared you for a purpose—to show you my power and to spread my fame throughout the earth. (Exodus 9:13-16 NLT)

I have seen the Lord’s Power.
I have felt the Lord’s Power.

I don’t pretend to have any power over anything or anyone. I can just speak from personal experience that the Lord has done big things in my heart and in my life. I can’t take any credit for anything I’ve accomplished or said. He has worked through me, and He has blessed me way beyond what I deserve. I’m so humbled and thankful that the God of Creation chooses to live in me and work through me.

I want to live today with a keen awareness that my purpose is to make Him famous. I would rather be an unknown somebody who loves the Lord than a celebrity, known by nearly everyone, who is lost.

Famous One (Chris Tomlin & Jesse Reaves)

You are the Lord
The famous One, famous One
Great is Your Name in all the earth
The heavens declare You’re glorious, glorious
Great is Your fame beyond the earth

And for all You’ve done and yet to do
With every breath I’m praising You
Desire of nations and every heart
You alone are God, You alone are God

The morning star is shining through
And every eye is watching You
Revealed by nature and miracles
You are beautiful, You are beautiful

Pressing On!
