Eyesight & Insight

I once heard someone say that my “eyes are the window to my soul”. I do know that my eyes have seen a lot of things over the years. Some of the things I’ve seen have been deeply disturbing. Other things I’ve seen have been awe-inspiring and beautiful.

Through my eyes, I can read the Word of God. Through my eyes, I can see the needs of others. Jesus spoke to the power of what our eyes see in His sermon on the mountain. Check this out…

22 “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. 23 But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is! (Matthew 6:22-23 NLT)

Several years ago, I had to get help for my vision. I remember trying to get used to eyeglasses and then adjusting to contact lenses. The big change came when I had to move into bifocals.  I’m actually looking through corrective lenses as I’m writing this because my eyesight is far from perfect.

Some things I’ve seen over the years of my life have given me insight – which is a deeper understanding of a topic or experience that I need to look at a bit more intently.  Jesus is revealed through the Word of God which I read with my eyes. He is revealed by the Holy Spirit which uses spiritual insight to see.

I think it’s wise to pray for insight to what my eyesight is taking in. There are many times when what I’m seeing with my eyes isn’t the complete story. I need insight from the Lord to see more than what I’m seeing physically.

I want to have healthy eyesight and healthy insight. The Lord can help me with both.

Pressing On!
