Discipline

Discipline is the bridge from WEAK to STRONG. Concept 3D illustration.I’m enjoying my journey through Proverbs. It seems that each verse could stand on it’s own and possibly be put in a fortune cookie at the Chinese restaurant. A proverb is a short popular saying, usually of unknown and ancient origin, that expresses effectively some commonplace truth or useful thought – an adage.” (dictionary.com) King Solomon, the author of Proverbs was known for his wisdom because the Lord gave him great wisdom.

Solomon speaks of discipline quite a bit. It’s sort of ironic that he is so eloquent on this subject when it was lack of discipline that cause him great heart ache and trouble. The word discipline speaks to an activity, exercise, or a regimen that develops or improves a skill. (dictionary.com) Check this out…

1 Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,

but whoever hates correction is stupid.
2 Good people obtain favor from the Lord,

but he condemns those who devise wicked schemes. (Proverbs 12:1-2 NIV)

I try really hard to be disciplined. This word has the word disciple inside it. To be a disciple of the Lord is to be disciplined. I need to tell my body what it will do, instead of it telling me what to do.

I need to be disciplined in my study of the Word.

I need to be disciplined in my prayer life.

I need to be disciplined in my eating.

I need to be disciplined in my work.

I need to be disciplined in my rest.

I need to be disciplined in every area of my life.

I need to be teachable in order to be disciplined. I need to allow others to speak into my life. Discipline will require corrective behavior to follow. Discipline will keep my life in line with the Lord’s Will for me. He corrects those He loves. I want the Driver of my life to be the Lord. I want what He wants for me. I want to carefully listen to Him speak into my heart and life and I want to have the discipline to walk in His way.

Pressing On!
