Dedicated & Committed

I have enjoyed reading and studying history since I was in third or fourth grade. I have really studied World War II recently and read several books written about some of the key players in that war. One of my favorite characters in WWII was Winston Churchill. He was an amazing leader who seemed to have no fear. He had dogged determination and this probably frustrated Hitler. He had a turbulent career as “Keeper of the Realm”, but he became the leader at the right time for Great Britain and the world.

The biblical account of David’s rise to power occasionally leaves out lots of details of war, but certainly explains the outcome of the battles faced and fought. David walked with the Lord as he led. He walked with the Lord as he came to power. Check this out….

11 King David dedicated all these gifts to the Lord, as he did with the silver and gold from the other nations he had defeated— 12 from Edom, Moab, Ammon, Philistia, and Amalek—and from Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

13 So David became even more famous when he returned from destroying 18,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt. 14 He placed army garrisons throughout Edom, and all the Edomites became David’s subjects. In fact, the Lord made David victorious wherever he went. (2 Samuel 8:11-14 NLT)

David was successful beyond his wildest dreams. He acquired tons of wealth from the defeated nations. He dedicated the spoils of war to the Lord Who gave him the victory. He seemed so grounded, dedicated and committed to the Lord. I think the Psalms was part of his journaling discipline to express his gratitude to the Lord.

I profoundly admire David as he grew famous and successful, he never forgot the One leading and directing his steps. His dedication, coupled with his commitment to the Lord made him an unstoppable force for his people and for the Lord. I could stand to deepen and widen my own commitment and dedication to the Lord.

Pressing On!
