Decision

I have to make decisions all day every day. Actually, everyone makes lots of decisions every day. I remember reading several years ago about how many average decisions I make when I’m driving. It’s crazy because, some decisions are simple and some carry lots more weight and have more significant outcomes. I made lots of decisions already and I’ve only been out of bed less than 30 minutes. I’ve chosen the clothes I will wear. I’ve chosen to shower. I’ve chosen to make coffee. I’ve decided what I will fix for breakfast. Some decisions are the nearly the same every day. Some decisions I face today might be difficult.

The Lord has made decisions that have changed the course of our whole existence. In the Old Testament we see where He shaped the make-up of nations and peoples. He is after all, The Creator. He didn’t build out this world and then put it on auto-pilot. He is engaged and involved in the life of His creation – us! Check this out….

24 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has sworn this oath:

“It will all happen as I have planned.
It will be as I have decided.

26 I have a plan for the whole earth,
a hand of judgment upon all the nations.
27 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has spoken—
    who can change his plans?
When his hand is raised,
who can stop him?” (Isaiah 14:24,26-27 NLT)

I think Isaiah is asking a rhetorical question – who can stop Him? Who can change His plans? The answer is obvious – no one. I do believe that the Lord listens to me when I talk to Him. I believe He listens to me when I ask Him to reconsider or change His mind. Ultimately, it’s up to Him. I can’t “make” Him do anything.

I’m still growing in my understanding of God’s heart. I’m still growing in my understanding of His Will for my life and for us as His people. I believe God is for me. I have seen His goodness over and over again. I was recently introduced to this song sung by Jenn Johnson called:“The Goodness of God”.

I make decisions based on what I believe about God. I make decisions based on my values.

I love You, Lord
For Your mercy never failed me
All my days, I’ve been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

And all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

I love Your voice
You have led me through the fire
And in darkest night You are close like no other
I’ve known You as a Father
I’ve known You as a Friend
And I have lived in the goodness of God, yeah!

And all my life You have been faithful, oh
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God, yeah!

‘Cause Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
With my life laid down, I’m surrendered now
I give You everything
‘Cause Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me, oh-oh

And all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I’m gonna sing of the goodness of God
