Craftsmanship

I love seeing a good craftsman at work. I have had the privilege of working with a friend who can make just about anything with wood. If he can see it, he can make it. I’ve learned that to be a good craftsman, a good set of tools are needed. Along with good tools, a good place is needed – like a spacious shop with lots of power, lights and room for benches to work on. This morning as I read a Psalm that David had written for his choir director, I thought about a craftsman as David spoke of God’s Craftsmanship. Check this out….

The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
    The skies display his craftsmanship.
Day after day they continue to speak;
    night after night they make him known.
They speak without a sound or word;
    their voice is never heard.
Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
    and their words to all the world. (Psalm 19:1-4b NLT)

We were at the lake this summer for a week of vacation & relaxation. The Lord painted some beautiful sunsets for us to enjoy. I think sunrise and sunsets are something I sometimes take for granted. This whole earth was created to bring glory to the Creator. He is the Craftsman behind the design and the beauty that I am privileged to live in.

He also created us humans in His likeness. We are the highest of His creations. He wants my life to show off His Craftsmanship just like the sunrise and the sunset do the same every day. My life is designed to bring honor and glory to my Creator. Unfortunately, I sometimes become self-centered and self-gratifying. I lose sight of my life purpose. This Psalm reminded me that God is the Craftsman and I’m the created product. He wants me to make His proud with my surrendered heart.

14 May the words of my mouth
    and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing to you,
    O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. (Psalm 19:14 NLT)

Pressing On!
