Consistent Obedience

The word consistent is possibly a cousin to the word faithful. Consistent carries with it words like steady, dependable, reliable, expected, same, unfailing – to name a few. It is almost always a positive. People who are consistent and steady are often not full of surprises. I wouldn’t say they are boring, but they are very self-disciplined. It is my plan to be consistent in following the Lord.

Jeremiah was instructed to get this group of Recabites who lived outside of Jerusalem and bring them to the temple and put wine in front of them for a celebration. They refused to drink the wine because they had never had wine. One of their ancestors had warned them to never drink wine and they obeyed. Check this out…

13 “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: Go and say to the people in Judah and Jerusalem, ‘Come and learn a lesson about how to obey me. 14 The Recabites do not drink wine to this day because their ancestor Jehonadab told them not to. But I have spoken to you again and again, and you refuse to obey me. 15 Time after time I sent you prophets, who told you, “Turn from your wicked ways, and start doing things right. Stop worshiping other gods so that you might live in peace here in the land I have given to you and your ancestors.” But you would not listen to me or obey me. 16 The descendants of Jehonadab son of Recab have obeyed their ancestor completely, but you have refused to listen to me.’

18 Then Jeremiah turned to the Recabites and said, “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘You have obeyed your ancestor Jehonadab in every respect, following all his instructions.’ 19 Therefore, this is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘Jehonadab son of Recab will always have descendants who serve me.’”  (Jeremiah 35:13-16, 18-19 NLT)

I want to be consistent in my obedience to the Lord

I want to be consistent to the call He has placed on my life.

I want to be consistent to seek the Lord in His Word.

I want to be consistent in serving others.

I want to be consistent in loving others.

I want the peace that passes all understanding because I’m consistently obeying the Lord with my daily choices, habits and attitude.

Pressing On!
