Clean House

I love a good clean house with everything in its place. When my kids were small, it was nearly impossible to keep the house clean. Kiddos can be messy.  I’ve learned that adults can be messy too!  It takes a little work every day to keep the house neat and tidy. I think it takes purging every now and then to get rid of things no longer useful or needed.  The same is true of a filing cabinet at work or a file on the computer. It takes clean up every now and then.

When Asa became king, he decided to clean up. He was the great-great-grandson of King Solomon. Check this out….

Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God. He removed the foreign altars and the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. He commanded Judah to seek the Lord, the God of their ancestors, and to obey his laws and commands. He removed the high places and incense altars in every town in Judah, and the kingdom was at peace under him. He built up the fortified cities of Judah, since the land was at peace. No one was at war with him during those years, for the Lord gave him rest. (2 Chronicles 14:2-6 NLT)

I need to keep a check on the crevices of my heart. I need to keep my heart clean and tidy before the Lord. I need to look in my heart and agree with the Lord regarding the things that don’t belong there.  If I look closely, I can see idols of my heart being built or installed. These are things that I want that He may not want. My idols are often things that are good and a blessing, but I’ve taken them too far. For example, I know that the Lord knows of my love for my family. When my love for my family comes between me and the Lord, it becomes an idol. Things that I want or things that I own can also become idols of my heart. I need to confess and keep check on my heart to keep the idols dismantled that the enemy wants me to build.

I need to get a good strong “shop vac” and use it to clean the idols from my heart. After doing some deep cleaning, I can keep it tidy with a daily check.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
