Clean Clothes

Clothes with detergent and washing powder in orange plastic basket isolated on whiteWhen I cut grass and ride the lawnmower, I’m not so dirty. When I run the weed eater, I get pretty filthy. I could probably stand to be brushed off or “hosed down” before going inside the house. Clothing is something that is worn in nearly every culture or society. It is usually a fiber or cloth material worn next to the skin to protect. Clothing serves as a barrier that can protect from nature and weather. I have clothes that I work daily in as a REALTOR professional. I have clothes that I wear to weddings and funerals. I have clothes for playing in. I have special clothes for swimming. I even have sleeping clothes!

The high priest in the Old Testament wore really fancy clothing. Their clothing had great significance. In Zechariah you can start to see Grace come on the scene. Check this out….

3 Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood before the angel. 4 The angel said to those who were standing before him, ‘Take off his filthy clothes.’

Then he said to Joshua, ‘See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put fine garments on you.’

5 Then I said, ‘Put a clean turban on his head.’ So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him, while the angel of the Lord stood by. (Zechariah 3:3-5 NIV)

As I read this I was reminded that the Lord cares way more about how my heart is clothed than my skin. I do believe that the Lord is a huge fan of modesty. I grew up believing that we were to wear our best clothes to church. I later learned that the Lord was way more interested in my heart than my physical appearance. I remember he gave me the idea that I can dress my body in blue jeans and dress my heart in a tuxedo for Him!

Pressing On!
