Clarification

Young pretty woman with question marksThere are times that I simply don’t quite understand what the other person or persons are trying to communicate with me. I might hear their words, but the thoughts that they are trying convey are a bit cloudy or confusing. If I can ask a question, I reveal my fogginess, but can often clear things up in my mind. I have learned to love questions because most often the answer to the questions delivers clarification.

As the Israelite nation was in the plains of Moab, about to march into the Promised Land, Moses was doing all sorts of instructions and strategizing with the leaders. Gilead from the tribe of Manassah approached Moses to get clarification. Check this out…

2 They said, ‘When the Lord commanded my lord to give the land as an inheritance to the Israelites by lot, he ordered you to give the inheritance of our brother Zelophehad to his daughters. 3 Now suppose they marry men from other Israelite tribes; then their inheritance will be taken from our ancestral inheritance and added to that of the tribe they marry into. And so part of the inheritance allotted to us will be taken away.

5 Then at the Lord’s command Moses gave this order to the Israelites: ‘What the tribe of the descendants of Joseph is saying is right.

7 No inheritance in Israel is to pass from one tribe to another, for every Israelite shall keep the tribal inheritance of their ancestors. (Numbers 36:2-3;5,7 NIV)

Questions can bring clarification.

Questions can bring a teachable moment.

Questions do not need to be sarcastic, but they can be.

I believe asking the right questions can be extremely insightful. I don’t like questions that interrogate, but I don’t mind questions that bring answers of clarification.

As I read and study the Word of God, I sometimes have questions and I don’t think the Lord minds one bit. I don’t question His Authority. There are times I don’t understand Him, but I trust Him. I’m not afraid to ask God a question, because I feel He wired me in such a way that it’s a teachable moment for His truth.

Pressing On!
