Church Differences

I’ve grown up in a Christian Church all my life. I’ve visited just about every denominational church as well. The “competition” among churches is a bit bothersome. We seem to focus more on our differences than the One Person we all have in common – Jesus. I would argue that on areas of doctrine, most churches agree ninety five percent of the time. But the way we’ve all drawn different lines, you wouldn’t know it.  The church belongs to Christ – He started it and it’s all about Him and His call upon our lives.

I wish all our churches cared as much about lost people as they care about buildings, budgets, and branding.  There was a situation that the disciples misunderstood, and Jesus used that situation to teach a kingdom mindset. Check this out…

38 “Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.”

39 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40 for whoever is not against us is for us. 41 Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward. (Mark 9:38-41 NLT)

I think church should be about reaching the lost while helping the saved grow in their faith. I think that all believers are called to be “fishers of men”. When we stop fishing, we start fighting about trivial stuff.

I think church should be about fellowship of believers with the intent of reaching lost people.

I think church should be about Biblical teaching so that our faith can keep growing.

No matter what church you are worshipping with and serving with – you are part of The Church. I think our different churches should be Kingdom minded and operating at The Church. The Church belongs to Jesus, and I belong to Him too. I would love to see all believers getting involved in local churches to promote the fame of Jesus and introduce more lost people to Him. It seems to me that Christ followers have become a bit more passive since the pandemic and less involved and less committed to the mission of all Christ followers.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
