Childlike Faith

I can still remember snippets from my childhood. I grew up in a small little unincorporated town in Kentucky. I am one of five children. My parents introduced me to Jesus when I was a child. I learned that He loved me by going to Sunday School and church. I also went to VBS every summer. The song “Jesus Loves Me” still rings in my ear.  I still have the same mind and the same body that I did back then. My body is a good bit older, and gravity seems to be making me sag!  I am still following Jesus and I want to continue to know Him at an even deeper level.

He prayed a prayer of Thanksgiving that was interesting. He seems to say that God really loves those with simple, childlike faith. Check this out….

25 At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. 26 Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way!

27 “My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” (Matthew 11:25-27 NLT)

I love being around children as they are so excited and full of energy! Children play with reckless abandon. Children do just about everything with reckless abandon. They have vivid imaginations. They are simple with their love. They are simple with their faith. I think I understand why Jesus prayed this prayer.

I think the Lord loves simple faith. I think He get frustrated with people who try to make following Jesus complicated and full of rules. As I follow Jesus, I find great freedom in areas that were previously rules given by a human. Jesus is most concerned about simple faith from deep inside my heart – where ONLY He can see. He knows that if He has my heart, through my childlike faith, my actions will follow.

I am a simple man with a simple faith in God. My faith is deep even though it’s simple. My faith is strong even though it’s simple.  I worship God and talk with God each day because of my simple, childlike faith.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
