Calm

There are times when I appear amazingly calm, but inside my soul, I’m anything but calm. Over the years I’ve learned to try to manage my response when facing chaotic situations. I’m not always able to manage my facial expressions, but I’m working on that too. When chaos comes my emotions seem to make things even more chaotic. If I can temper my response the chaos doesn’t seem to get worse – it gives me some bandwidth to seek solutions or make decision that help bring calm to the chaos.

Jesus brings calm to chaos. There was a situation where the disciples faced a chaotic situation dealing with a sudden storm and Jesus is in the middle of the situation. Check this out….

23 Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples.24 Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”

26 Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm. (Matthew 8:23-26 NLT)

I love this story. I’m amazed that Jesus is sleeping in the type of storm Matthew describes. Nevertheless, when they wake Him up, He calms them down and the calms the storm.

I’ve faced some storms in life and Jesus has walked me through them. He has never left alone in the storm. I don’t see how some people navigate their life storms without Him.

I need His calming Presence.

I need His calming Power.

I need to remember that no matter what the storm or how large and looming it is, Jesus can bring calm into any chaotic situation that I face.

Pressing On!
