Builder – Protector

In my business, I’ve worked with builders over the years. There are some builders who are very detailed orientated and others who are a bit more careless. Most builders have a list of sub-contractors that come along and build specific areas of the build. For example, a plumber puts in the pipe work as well as all the plumbing fixtures for a house. The flooring guy puts down flooring. The list goes on to other areas such as sheetrock, siding, electricity, etc.… The builder is the watchful eye to make sure that each sub-contractor does their work properly, because his name is on the overall house build. One of the functions of the electrician is to wire the home for a security system, if the customer desires this added feature. The windows and doors will be wired as well as motion sensors. I’ve been told that a home security system is meant to keep an “honest thief” from breaking into your home.

The Psalmist (King Solomon) penned a Psalm for the pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem that made a clear statement regarding building and protecting our stuff. Check this out….

Unless the Lord builds a house,
the work of the builders is wasted.
Unless the Lord protects a city,
guarding it with sentries will do no good.  (Psalm 127:1 NLT)

My wife and I built our house 23 years ago and we loved our builder – and still do. He built a very solid house and we wanted a very simple house that would be functional for our family. We were not trying to impress others, we were just excited for the opportunity to build in a location where we wanted to live and raise our family. We are still thankful today for the blessing of our home, it’s way simpler than many I see and sell today. It is definitely dated in some areas and we are about to make some significant changes because our lives have significantly changed – our kids are grown and mostly gone from home. This passage that I read this morning still rings in my ears – “unless the Lord builds it…. the work is wasted”. I want to work with the Lord in continuing to build my business and expand my influence. I want to build my life with Him as the foundation of it all. I also want His help protecting what He and I build. I want the Lord to help build me and protect me and my family as well as my business. I want His Hand and His Presence in everything my hand is in.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
