Blood Work

I have my blood drawn at least once a year (as part of getting old) so that the doctor can have it sent to the lab. From my blood work report, he can tell a lot about how healthy I am simply by studying that report. I have a blood type and it is compatible with others of the same blood type. I am a faithful supporter of the American Red Cross and I give blood on schedule as often as I’m allowed. I have a dear friend who is alive today because he was the recipient of several blood transfusions. His native blood was unhealthy, and he needed good blood to replace.

Blood the fluid that circulates in the principal vascular system of human beings and other vertebrates, in humans consisting of plasma in which the red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets are suspended. The vital principle; life. “Blood is also defined as a body fluid in humans and other animals that delivers necessary substances such as nutrients and oxygen to the cells and transports metabolic waste products away from those same cells.” (dictionary.com)

The Lord gave His people some specific instructions about not eating or drinking blood. He is the Creator of Life and He knows the value of blood for sure. Check this out….

10 “And if any native Israelite or foreigner living among you eats or drinks blood in any form, I will turn against that person and cut him off from the community of your people, 11 for the life of the body is in its blood. I have given you the blood on the altar to purify you, making you right with the Lord. It is the blood, given in exchange for a life, that makes purification possible12 That is why I have said to the people of Israel, ‘You must never eat or drink blood—neither you nor the foreigners living among you.’ (Leviticus 17:10-12 NLT)

The blood flowing through my body is what gives life to my body. There are elements of my blood that are part of my DNA (related to my genetic body code) and that make me who I am. As far as I can tell, no one has been able to replicate blood. Our bodies can produce more blood after we give some of it away.

I think the high value of blood to life is the very reason our Creator required blood sacrifice for our sin and stupidity. I believe He wanted me to know just how much He hates my sin. The very blood of His Son (as He became a human) was given for my forgiveness and to restore my relationship with God. There is physical life in blood and there is spiritual life in blood.
