Blind Fight

guard for fight

I’m not much of a fighter per se, but I am really not afraid of a fight. I will fight to protect those I love. I will fight to protect the principles I believe in. I will fight to defend myself against someone trying to harm me. Jesus often spoke about turning the other cheek. He also warned against people who seek to kill and destroy His followers and all that we stand for. I have worked hard over the years to subdue my anger and to grow my patience. (I hate to talk about patience, because it gets tried really well afterward.) I don’t consider myself a “hot head” or person with a short fuse. I do have buttons that can get pushed, but I’ve tried to slow my response time over the years to act wisely when or if I choose to act.

Paul talks about a fight against the unseen. This is where the real battle is. I can’t imagine fighting in a war where I can’t see the enemy. I can’t imagine a “fist fight” where my opponent is invisible. This is what it feels like a bit. The big difference in the Holy Spirit in me. He’s invisible too. He is the only way I can have success when fighting blind. Check this out….

10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:10-12 NLT)

I must be keenly aware of the unseen battle. It is a real as the fingers that are typing these words. Just because I can’t see it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. I believe the enemy loves lurking and sneaking around without being seen, because he can trick us more easily. I do have an “Ace in the hole” with the very Spirit of God in me. This is how I can combat the unseen enemy. Please note that the enemy is not always unseen. Sometimes the enemy comes dressed up as a friend or a good looking beautiful person who turns our head. I remember a song years ago written by a lady who said the devil showed up in a nice shirt and blue jeans and was good looking!

The only way to fight an unseen battle is the be equipped for that kind of battle. I need “night vision goggles” – the eyes of the unseen, but very present Holy Spirit of God. As I journey through His Word, I become keenly aware of the unseen forces that are working against me, but I also become aware of those Who are for me. My fight against the evil one, may seem like a blind fight, but with God dwelling in my heart, I can see it coming from a distance and prepare accordingly!

Pressing On!
