Blessed To Bless

When I take time to count my blessings, it takes a good bit of time. An incredible sense of gratitude comes over me when I stop to count my blessings. For the past couple of years, I’ve really tried to take gratitude more seriously. I have been deliberate about giving the Lord thanks for my wife, my life, my family, my friendships, my work, my church family and the list is very long. When I stop to count my blessings, my heart gets full. When I stop to count my blessings, my attitude is positive. When I came across this Psalm this morning, I was reminded of how blessed I am and that I need to be a blessing to others. Check this out….

Not to us, O Lord, not to us,
but to your name goes all the glory
for your unfailing love and faithfulness.

11 All you who fear the Lord, trust the Lord!
He is your helper and your shield.

13 He will bless those who fear the Lord,
    both great and lowly.

14 May the Lord richly bless
    both you and your children.
15 May you be blessed by the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.(Psalm 115:1,11,13-15 NLT)

The Lord gets all the credit for anything good that happens to me.

The Lord gets all the credit for anything good that I can do.

The Lord gets all the credit for all the blessings in my life.

I want my life to be a blessing to the Lord and to others. He has been so patient with me over the years. He has watched me slowly learn to live out my faith both privately and publicly. When I pause to think about my journey of faith, I’m overwhelmed by the love, the grace and mercy of God. I have ignored Him. I have denied Him. I have lied to Him. I have blamed Him. He was waiting for me to turn my heart back to His. I’m so glad I did. I’m so thankful for His Presence in my heart today. I want to finish this life strong with Him leading. I want to bless Him every day so that I can be a blessing on His behalf every day.

I was reminded of a song that we sang just this past Sunday – 10,000 Reasons (Bless The Lord Oh My Soul)by Matt Redman.

Chorus: Bless the Lord oh my soul Oh my soul
Worship His Holy name
Sing like never before
Oh my soul I’ll worship Your Holy name

The sun comes up It’s a new day dawning
It’s time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass And whatever lies before me
Let me be singing When the evening comes (Chorus)

You’re rich in love And You’re slow to anger
Your name is great And Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons For my heart to find (Chorus)

And on that day When my strength is failing
The end draws near And my time has come
Still my soul will Sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years And then forevermore  (Chorus)
