Believe

I believe some things that others tell me because I see them as a reliable source of information. I believe my Pastor when He teaches the Word of God, but I do search for myself in the Word to be sure what He says aligns with the Word of God. I also believe my Doctor when he tells me what to do to get well.

There are times when I don’t believe everything I’m told. I want to see things with my own eyes and “vet” them for myself.  I also sometimes want to hear the story from the very source or “the horse’s mouth”!

Jesus meets this Samaritan woman at Jacobs well and strikes up a conversation with her regarding water.  During the conversation, He speaks of her private life and this is the first time He’s ever met her.  She is blown away by the encounter and goes into town and tells everyone about this guy and her conversation with Him. What happens next is amazing. Check this out….

39 Many Samaritans from the village believed in Jesus because the woman had said, “He told me everything I ever did!” 40 When they came out to see him, they begged him to stay in their village. So he stayed for two days, 41 long enough for many more to hear his message and believe. 42 Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not just because of what you told us, but because we have heard him ourselves. Now we know that he is indeed the Savior of the world.” (John 4:39-42 NLT)

I first heard of Jesus from my parents, grandparents, preachers and Sunday School teachers growing up. I was taught the Word of God. I now believe in God based on my own experiences and conversations with the Lord. I believe for a different reason. I’m living out of my personal experience with the Lord.

This belief is based on my journey, NOT someone else’s version of the Story of Jesus. I believe that Jesus is the One and ONLY Son of God. I believe He came to earth as a baby, grew up to be a man and lived a sinless life. He taught things of God from His very own knowledge of God. I believe in knowing Jesus that I know God Himself.

My beliefs are not up for debate or negotiation. I seek Him daily. I surrender to Him daily. He has given perspective and purpose to my life.  I’m living now for more than just this life. I’m keeping my eye on the eternal life He spoke of.
