Banner Of Love

Love among human beings is simple, yet very complex and complicated at the same time. This word has been misused, abused and overused in our culture for many years. I’m not sure how it is in other languages, but in English, we say that we “love” apple pie, football, fried chicken and then we say we “love” our wife or our children. Obviously our family relationships mean more than a piece of pie or a sporting event, but the same word is used for both situations. My youngest son, Luke is a native of Nicaragua and has been here in the US with us for over 3 ½ years and he is still learning about how we use the same word for different applications even though it sounds exactly the same.

King Solomon is believed to be the author of the Song of Solomon (aka Song of Songs) and it sure sounds like a conversation between a husband and wife. Some believe it is a beautiful allegory of how the Lord loves His church. I came across this small passage and it reminded me of a song we used to sing at church camp. Check this out…

I was once again reminded of the deep, rich love of God. He is relentless in His pursuit of me. He loves me more than I can understand or comprehend. He loves me without strings attached. He cherishes me and wants my relationship to go beyond shallow songs and words. He wants my life totally surrendered to Him.   I was reminded recently that I’m good because I’m saved. I’m not saved because I’m good. The Lord loves me too much to leave me where I am. He wants me to develop a heart like His. I am deeply loved by God.
