Authority & Humility
We are coming up on election time in our country. The tension is the air is extremely tight. People are choosing sides and making villains of people who have opposing views. I have to say that I don’t like this season in our country at all. People become so passionate about their particular views that hatred often enters their hearts. I believe that Satan, the enemy of Christ followers loves this. Because many Christ followers have entered the arena of politics of hatred and hardened hearts. Before you go accusing me of being Red or Blue, please hear what the Word of God speaks about humility. Check this out…..
5 In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for
“God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble.”
6 So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. 7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. (1 Peter 5:5-7 NLT)
I want to be humble and gracious as I listen to people whose views are dramatically different than mine. I don’t want to hop on the bandwagon of destructive comments about people currently or previously in leadership in our country.
I think that Christ followers should ALWAYS be humble and gentle when dealing with authority. We should also be careful what we say and how we say. I must check my heart because I’m VERY passionate about what I believe. I’m also very opinionated about what is right about some of the laws passed in our government and some that should be passed.
I’m leaning hard upon the Lord through this tumultuous time in our country and in the world. I don’t have a lot of answers or strategies except to be humble and trust in the Lord.
Pressing On!
