Always Trust

I want to be known after my life here is complete for being faithful to the Lord. I want to “Always Trust” Him in everything. It sounds like something that is easy, but it’s a bit harder that I sometimes think. It’s easy in the middle of a successful season to take all the credit. It’s easy in the midst of a crisis to place blame. I am learning to always trust in the Lord, no matter what comes my way. I do face fear and freak out at times, but when I turn to the Lord, He tosses fear out.

As I read part of the story of David, I realized the humiliation and embarrassment he suffered at the hands of Saul. He had been anointed as the next king, but he had profound respect for the Lord’s anointed – Saul. David was determined to let the Lord remove the king instead of him. David had fled from Saul and Doeg, the Edomite reported to Saul where David had fled. David pens this Psalm and I can feel the frustration toward Doeg, evidently a great warrior. But then the tone of this Psalm changes as David affirms his trust in God. Check this out…

But I am like an olive tree, thriving in the house of God.
I will always trust in God’s unfailing love.
I will praise you forever, O God,
    for what you have done.
I will trust in your good name
in the presence of your faithful people. (Psalm 52:8-9 NLT)

Olive trees are a very old specimen of trees. They are very resilient and consistent. They are drought friendly and very durable. King David compared himself to an olive tree because of these characteristics. His trust in the Lord was consistent and resilient. His trust in the Lord was constant, even when he needed refreshment.

My trust in the Lord grows as I read of historical figures like King David. I am inspired by his deep faith and trust in God. His journey with the Lord has encouraged me for years. King David is known for his heart. He was described as a man after God’s own heart – even after his sin and scandal with Bathsheba. He was a faithful leader who modeled repentance and trust in God.

I believe that trusting in the Lord is fundamental to the peace that only the Lord can provide. When I trust in Him, peace and hope move into my heart. I believe that trust is an on-going process. I can’t just trust Him once and that be it. Trust in the Lord is a continuous process throughout each day of my life. I always call on His help to grow in my trust of Him.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
