A Sharp Axe

I remember as a kid, I used to help split wood to make the pieces fit in our wood burning stove. I thought it was a good day when we got a stove that burned kerosene. I have a young son who enjoys splitting wood, or I’ll hire someone with a wood splitter. I don’t find joy in splitting wood. I do remember some of the lessons learned during that phase of life. I learned how to sharpen the axe and that made a huge difference.

King Solomon compares wisdom to having a sharp axe. Check this out….

10 Using a dull ax requires great strength,
    so sharpen the blade.
That’s the value of wisdom;
    it helps you succeed. (Ecclesiastes 10:10 NLT)

I think my mind can be like the axe. It can grow dull and need sharpened. I believe that spending time in the Word of God can sharpen me spiritually. Working out at the Fitness Center can sharpen me physically. My personal thoughts and life can be sharpened by continually learning and growing. I am a huge fan of personal growth books and podcasts. I believe that personal growth, spiritual growth and physical growth complement one another. I see value in sharpening all three areas.

I want to work on sharpening my spiritual life.

I want to work on growing in personal soul growth.

I want to work on getting healthier physically.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
