A Promise Kept

I’ve heard people talk badly about politicians over the years. There are some really good people who serve as our elected officials. Some are not there for power, they simply want to serve and help make our government the best it can be. Others make promises that they have no intention of keeping or they have their own agenda. Some people simply want power so they can talk down to everyone else. I think people running for office – every office, should see their position as one of serving rather than power brokering.  I heard someone say that the way you can tell if a politician is lying is if his/her lips are moving. My personal experience in interacting with elected officials is that they will listen and treat me with respect if I treat them the same way.

There is part of me that would have love to be there when Caleb was given his land. He and Joshua were in the minority the day the spies returned from scouting and checking out the land. Their faith in God was strong and they were the only two of a generation to survive the next 40 years of traveling by the nation of Israel.  The Lord keeps His promises for sure. Check this out…

13 The Lord commanded Joshua to assign some of Judah’s territory to Caleb son of Jephunneh. So Caleb was given the town of Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), which had been named after Anak’s ancestor. (Joshua 15:13 NLT)

If I make a promise, I should keep it. My word should mean something. We used to be able to give our word and maybe a handshake and it would happen. I made a promise to my wife nearly 25 years ago. I’ve made promises to my parents. I’ve made promises to my friends. I intend to keep every promise I make. In order to keep my promises, I may have to make changes to the friends I keep or hang out with and the way I spend my time. In fact, my daily choices may affect my ability to keep my promises. I’ve made promises to the Lord that I intend to keep as well. I want to seek Him in every choice that I have because I need His wisdom and insight in order to keep the very promises I’ve made to Him.  He keeps His promises to me and He expects me to keep my promises made to Him. If I can’t keep my promises, I need to STOP making them.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
