A Different Drumbeat

I love music. I grew up with music at home. My Grandma (Essie) was part of the Hayes family from Boone, North Carolina. She played old ballads from Appalachia on her guitar until she was well into her 80’s. In fact, we would roll her from her room in the Convalescent center to the common area and she would play her guitar and sing for her neighbors in the nursing home. I picked up guitar and learned quickly as did my children. I can “hear” music when chords are changing. I can hear certain rhythms. I can hear pitch. I can tell when I hear live music if something is off whether is rhythm, pitch or someone playing the wrong chord.

Isaiah talks about how the culture of Israel had become so wicked and decadent. I believe that the people of God should always march to the drumbeat of the Lord and not the drumbeat of our culture. Check this out….

20 What sorrow for those who say
that evil is good and good is evil,
that dark is light and light is dark,
that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter.
21 What sorrow for those who are wise in their own eyes
and think themselves so clever.

24 Therefore, just as fire licks up stubble
and dry grass shrivels in the flame,
so their roots will rot
and their flowers wither.
For they have rejected the law of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies;
they have despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. (Isaiah 5:10-21,24 NLT)

I know how this all ends. I’ve read the conclusion. The Lord God, Creator of all is still in charge of His Creation. One day we will all meet Him face to face. One day we will be held accountable for all that we have done. I’m so thankful that some of the dumb choices and stupid behaviors that I’ve done have been erased and covered by the Grace of God. He made a way for me to come back to Him. He made a way for me to follow Him. He made the way home simple.

He calls on me to march to the beat of a different drum.

He calls on me to love people, even those who hate me.

He calls me to be faithful to my wife and family and run from temptation.

He calls me to seek His heart with all that is in me.

He calls me to seek the Truth in His Word.

As I follow Him, I can quickly tell if the drum beat I’m hearing in our world is from Him or from the enemy. I believe the enemy tries to disguise his drumbeat to the Lord’s. The more familiar I become with God’s heart and His voice, I can recognize the enemy from a good distance. I’m committed and determined to follow the drumbeat and the rhythm of God’s call upon my life.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
