He Knows
I remember a time in High School when I was doing things that I knew were wrong. I was deceiving my parents and I’m embarrassed now to even speak of those things. I remember one particular time that I composed this pretty elaborate lie to steer my parents in a different direction. I later found out that they clearly thought I was lying. Now that I’m a parent, I can recall those times (which wasn’t often) when my kids told a lie. There was something about their demeanor, their posture, facial expression (or lack thereof) and tone of voice. I really believe that I know my kids. The thing is, I also know other kids. I can often detect a lie from someone else, because of the way it’s presented. It’s different dealing with an adult who lies. I can’t stand when someone lies or “tweaks the truth” to suit their own situation or wants. Lies destroy trust in one fatal blow and it’s a difficult recovery to restore trust.
John pens the letters to the churches in Revelation and each one starts out with affirmation of what Christ knows about them. Check this out…
19 “I know all the things you do. I have seen your love, your faith, your service, and your patient endurance. And I can see your constant improvement in all these things.(Revelation 2:19 NLT)
The Lord knows everything I do.
The Lord knows everything I think.
The Lord knows everything I say.
The Lord knows what my hands do.
The Lord knows where my feet go.
The Lord knows everything about me.
I’m not sure why I still sometimes try to deceive the Lord and others. There is nothing I could possibly say or do to justify my sin. I need Him to help me keep my thought life pure. I need His help to edit my words before they come from my mouth. I need His help to direct me where to walk. I really need His help in everything. He is aware that I need Him. He is available whenever I call on Him. He is never late when I call. He is never “forgetful” or “absent minded” like me. He knows everything about me and still loves me profoundly. I’m still learning to love like that. There is something about Him knowing all about me that is comforting after I come to terms with it. There are no secrets between the Lord and me.
Pressing On!
