Special Balm

I looked up the word balm in the dictionary and it speaks to an ointment for healing and restoring. It is something that has a comforting, soothing and restoring effect. There’s a balm for my skin and a balm for my soul. Evidently it was plentiful in Gilead. It was and still is a powerful healing agent.  Jeremiah was speaking of healing that the Balm of Gilead would not touch. Check this out….

“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”

 11 “Go up to Gilead and get some balm, people of Egypt!
You have prepared many medicines,
but they will not work;
you will not be healed.
12 The nations have heard of your shame,
and your cries fill all the earth.
One warrior has run into another;
both of them have fallen down together!” (Jeremiah 46:11-12 NCV)

The Lord is the Healer of hearts. The healing that I need doesn’t come from balm or salve – it comes from the Lord. There are battles that I face that regular weaponry won’t work. There are battles that I face, but God will fight. He actually is my Advisor or every battle. Egypt was fighting a battle that they could not win without the Lord, but they didn’t know Him.  I want to face each battle of life with Him in charge of the troops, my weapons, my strategies…everything! He provides protection and healing that medicine can’t create or invent. His Presence soothes my soul and directs my path so that I’m in the center of where He wants me. I need His Presence every day for every battle I face!
