Words Just Struggle
There are times when I’m trying to describe something that words simply don’t do it justice. In fact it seems that words actually fail to describe things sometimes. Trying to put into words the Love of God is one example of something impossible to describe. I came across the Psalmist attempt this am. Check this out….
1 Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. 2 For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord. (Psalm 117:1-2 NIV)
I was reminded this morning of an old hymn which tried to describe the Love of God. It was called “The Love Of God” and it really did stick because I haven’t heard of thought of this hymn of many years.
1. The love of God is greater far Than tongue or pen can ever tell. It goes beyond the highest star And reaches to the lowest hell. The guilty pair, bowed down with care, God gave His Son to win; His erring child He reconciled And pardoned from his sin. Chorus: O love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong! It shall forevermore endure— The saints’ and angels’ song. 2. When hoary time shall pass away, And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall; When men who here refuse to pray, On rocks and hills and mountains call; God’s love, so sure, shall still endure, All measureless and strong; Redeeming grace to Adam’s race— The saints’ and angels’ song. 3. Could we with ink the ocean fill, And were the skies of parchment made; Were every stalk on earth a quill, And every man a scribe by trade; To write the love of God above Would drain the ocean dry; Nor could the scroll contain the whole, Though stretched from sky to sky.Words & Music © 1923, Ren. 1951 by Hope Publishing Co., Carol Stream, IL 60188.
When my words really struggle, I’ll just borrow from someone else. I can’t begin to describe the Love of God this morning. I just know of His Love and I know of His Faithfulness first hand.
Pressing On! Dwayne
