Words

I love learning new words. I don’t always love learning them in a casual conversation. I had this professor when I was working on my undergrad degree that was known for using big, little-known word in his lectures. He was trying to expand the vocabulary of his students, but it was a bit challenging to keep up with the content without the distraction of big words. I’ve learned over the years to look up a word that I don’t understand and then try to use it in the correct context.  Those who are good writers are usually gifted with words and are great readers of words.

Words can bring great joy.

Words can bring great pain.

Words can confuse.

Words can clarify.

Words can give direction.

Words can curse.

Words can bless.

Words can inspire.

Words can encourage.

Words can show love.

Words can seethe with hate.

I came across a passage where Jesus was sending His followers on a mission. He wanted them to go out in the villages and surrounding towns sharing His message of Good News! He had taught them and equipped them. It was time for the “test their wings”. He gave them some unusual instructions and some practical instructions. When it came to the content of their message, the Holy Spirit would have that. Check this out…

19 When you are arrested, don’t worry about how to respond or what to say. God will give you the right words at the right time. 20 For it is not you who will be speaking—it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. (Matthew 10:19-20 NLT)

I want the Spirit to give me words all throughout my day.

I want to honor the Lord with the words that come from mouth. I want the Holy Spirit to be a filter for my words. I want to slow down a bit before spewing words that hurt and harm. I want His words to be my words. I want Him to speak into me and then out through me.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
