Willful Disobedience
I guess that there is such a thing as “accidental disobedience” or ignorance of the law. I’m told that ignorance of the law is not a legitimate or excusable reason for breaking the law. There have been times that I simply didn’t know what to do and I did the wrong thing. There are other times when I just didn’t care – I did what I thought was right even though I knew it was wrong. That is willful disobedience.
Jeremiah was dealing with the remnant that was left behind in Jerusalem. He was given a message from the Lord that they were to stay in Jerusalem and there wouldn’t ben any harm brought to them. They ignored Jeremiah’s counsel. Check this out….
4 So Johanan son of Kareah and all the army officers and all the people disobeyed the Lord’s command to stay in the land of Judah. 5 Instead, Johanan son of Kareah and all the army officers led away all the remnant of Judah who had come back to live in the land of Judah from all the nations where they had been scattered. 6 They also led away all those whom Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard had left with Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan—the men, the women, the children and the king’s daughters. And they took Jeremiah the prophet and Baruch son of Neriah along with them. 7 So they entered Egypt in disobedience to the Lord and went as far as Tahpanhes. (Jeremiah 43:4-7 NIV)
I believe that sin is simply disobeying The Lord. He created/built us to operate a certain way and we often ignore Him and go our own way. The Lord has some very specific ways that He’s called me to live. I would be wise to walk in His way. He blesses me in obedience. He disciplines me in disobedience.
I’ve learned the hard way that willful disobedience is not the way to live. I want to live in faithful & intentional obedience to the call of The Lord on my life.
Pressing On!
