Wherever You are

I think it was Confucius who said, “Wherever you go, there you are”. I am in a busy season of life at the moment and I might be found at my office early in the morning or at a listing appointment, or a showing appointment, or even in the classroom teaching. I enjoy my work and the people I get to work with. Recently, I’ve been checking my calendar more than normal because it feels like it’s in control of me instead of the other way around. My day starts with gratitude for all that the Lord has blessed me with. Coffee quickly follows. I am currently sitting in our sunroom and it’s dark outside as I study and meditate on the Word of God. I’m in the book of Deuteronomy and Moses is giving a series of speeches to the people of Israel as they are poised to go into the land promised to them by God for many years. His talk this morning seemed to be geared to the parents. Parents are to be an example for their children and teach them. I think the example of parents speaks way louder than any words they might say. Check this out….

18 “So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. 19 Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. 20 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, 21 so that as long as the sky remains above the earth, you and your children may flourish in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors.

22 “Be careful to obey all these commands I am giving you. Show love to the Lord your God by walking in his ways and holding tightly to him. (Deuteronomy 11:18-22 NLT)

I love this passage because I was reminded as a young parent the value of time spent with my children. I remember hearing a speaker once who said that, “Love for my children is spelled TIME”. This passage speaks about wherever I am, I should teach what I’ve learned about the Lord. I think it starts with my family but extends to others that I’m around.

I also think that having passages of scripture around to remind me of His Word is powerful. I am reminded of one of several passages that I saw when I toured Ramsey Solutions recently. Check this out….

14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. (Matthew 5:14-16 NLT)

I think my example and any influence that I might have on others is not for my glory, but for the Glory of God. My heart belongs to Him. I am nothing without Him for sure. I have learned that wherever I go or wherever I find myself, He is with me. He will lead me and direct my paths when I seek His help and His direction.

Pressing On!
