Where I Come From

I still chuckle at the song “Where I Come From” by Alan Jackson, a country music mega star from nearby Newnan, Georgia.  He remembers where he’s from. I do like to listen to his music for sure. I like to see people who make it big remember where they came from. I had the opportunity to watch the “Dude Perfect Documentary” a few evenings ago. Their story is amazing, and they are clearly grounded, and they remember where they came from and who they are today.

I’m not sure what Jesus meant when He told the story of the mustard seed, but it reminded me to remember where I came from and the large group of people who contributed to my success along the way. Check this out….

31 Here is another illustration Jesus used: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field. 32 It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants; it grows into a tree, and birds come and make nests in its branches.” (Matthew 13:31-32 NLT)

I remember my preachers.

I remember my Sunday School teachers.

I remember my teachers in elementary school.

I remember my high school teachers.

I remember my college professors.

I remember my friends in college.

I remember my friends in ministry.

I remember agents who encouraged me.

I remember my clients and customers.

I remember podcasts.

I remember books I’ve read.

I remember speakers I’ve heard.

I am who I am today because of the many people who have invested in me. Some of them have no idea the impact they have had on my life.

When I remember all the influencers in my life, I’m humbled and incredibly grateful for their investment and impact on a kid who grew up in a small town in Kentucky and made his way to Georgia many years ago.  I’m nothing special without the Presence of God in me. With Him in my heart, He can do whatever He wants, and I will remember who I was before I met Him.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
