Where Do I Begin? -Thankful Heart

I don’t know where to start when it comes to giving the Lord thanks for all He has done for me and all He is doing. I added a bit to my morning routine several months back and started actually starting my day giving thanks to the Lord for my family. I am so thankful for the blessing of my family. I find it hard to imagine what life would look like and feel like to not have my family so near to my heart.

I opened the Word this morning and my reading schedule brought me to Psalm 103. This is an amazing Psalm of gratitude. I was reminded again to be grateful to the Lord. The Psalmist is so eloquent, yet simple. These words moved me and blessed me. Check this out….

Let all that I am praise the Lord;
    with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.
Let all that I am praise the Lord;
    may I never forget the good things he does for me.
He forgives all my sins
    and heals all my diseases.
He redeems me from death
    and crowns me with love and tender mercies.
He fills my life with good things.
    My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!

The Lord is compassionate and merciful,
    slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.

11 For his unfailing love toward those who fear him
    is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.
12 He has removed our sins as far from us
    as the east is from the west. (Psalm 103:1-5,8,11-12 NLT)

It’s easy to hang on to the negative things that have happened to me over the years. My family has had heart ache and struggle. It’s easy to get stuck at the self-pity parties because they are all about me. It takes a bit more work, to realize that my life and my family are not all about me. We were made with a purpose, no matter the birth order, and that is to give honor to the Lord God, our Creator. I believe that we were made to serve. I think in serving others, I find great meaning and depth of character. If I’m serving others consistently with my life, then my life is NOT about me.

I must always remember to give praise to the Lord for EVERYTHING that He has done.

I must always remember to give praise to the Lord for EVERYTHING that He is doing.

I must always remember to serve others as unto the Lord. If I’m serving others, I’m not so caught up in my prideful self.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
