What And Who

idolsThe object of my affection and my attention quickly becomes that which I value deeply. I may value my family above all my possessions. I may value my possessions over friends. The things I value can take the place of the Lord in my life if I’m not aware and working to keep Him in His proper place.

I’ve never been guilty of making a carved image and then worshipping the carving. I personally think it’s stupid to worship a statue of any kind. The Lord I serve and The God of the Bible is alive and doesn’t need a carving to make me aware of His Presence. His Presence in me means more than any inanimate object. Check this out….

13 Your name, Lord, endures forever,

your renown, Lord, through all generations.
14 For the Lord will vindicate his people

and have compassion on his servants.
15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold,

    made by human hands.
16 They have mouths, but cannot speak,

    eyes, but cannot see.
17 They have ears, but cannot hear,

nor is there breath in their mouths.
18 Those who make them will be like them,

and so will all who trust in them. (Psalm 135:13-18 NIV)

I don’t want anything or anyone to take the place of the Lord in my life. I don’t want to serve any God except Creator God. I think it’s stupid if I put His creation and created ones over and above the One Who created them in the first place. I must learn to grow in my trust and pursue honoring Him and worshipping Him. I love that word “renown”. This word implies His Fame and Him being known everywhere by everyone. I want everyone to know that I know Him and I follow Him.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
