Vow

This word is defined as “a solemn pledge, promise or personal commitment”. I have made vows in the past and I’m sure I will continue to make vows in the future. I take vows very personally because I believe that the Lord takes them very personal as well. A vow speaks to deep convictions inside my soul. I’ve seen people take a marriage vow only to discard that vow later in a lapse of judgement. Broken marriage vows are deeply painful to each wounded party. A broken marriage vow has a ripple effect on close friends and family to the wounded parties as well.

The Lord loves it when His kids make a vow to follow Him or to walk in obedience to Him. I believe He is wounded when we break that solemn promise. Asaph challenges all peoples to make vows to the Lord and keep them. Check this out….

11 Make vows to the Lord your God, and keep them.
Let everyone bring tribute to the Awesome One. (Psalm 76:11 NLT)

I’ve learned that in my business as a REALTOR, that verbal promises are not worth the paper they’re not written on.  Talk is really cheap, and I really hate that. I’ve always thought of my word as my bond. I’ve worked with people that if they said it, it was the same to them as if they had signed a binding document in the presence of a notary public.

I’m learning to write down what I say, because as I get older, my memory sometimes lets me down. I sometimes need to review what I just said. I think it’s a good idea to think carefully before making a promise or pledge to anyone. I remember one of my Bible Professors in college saying that the Lord doesn’t require a bunch of vows, but if you make a vow to Him, you had better keep it.

I promised to trust the Lord with all that I have several years ago. It is a journey for sure and eventually a destination -heaven. He is always faithful in His promise and pledge to me, even when I waiver on my promise and pledge to Him. I’m choosing to walk with Him daily and seek His heart. He has shaped my heart and my purpose as I daily choose to listen to Him speak in His Word. He speaks into my heart throughout my day. I am renewing my vow to the Lord again today. I will follow Him all the rest of my days.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
