Volunteer
I raised my hand and said, “I’ll be glad to do it”. I became a volunteer at that point and the fun began. Over the years, I’ve volunteered for many different things – in some instances I just happen to be at the right place and the right time (or wrong time, depending on the situation). I remember when I was in student ministry how finding good volunteers was a very daunting task. Some of my favorite people in the world are volunteers who are almost always willing to serve for a cause much bigger than them.
I know that the Lord loves for me to serve His Kingdom. The church is just one place I can volunteer. There are often opportunities to serve others – like the homeless shelter, special Olympics, relay for life and a multitude of good causes. I can serve the Lord by serving others.
The Powerful Presence of God blew the Prophet Isaiah away and he quickly volunteered to serve. Check this out….
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: with two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.’ 4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. 5 ‘Woe to me!’ I cried. ‘I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.’ 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, ‘See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.’ 8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’ (Isaiah 6:1-8 NIV)
The Presence of God moves me to serve.
The Presence of God changes my view of my situation.
The Presence of God changes my attitude.
The Presence of God purifies my heart.
The Presence of God prepares me to serve.
I am most like my Father, Creator God when I love & serve others.
“I’ll go.”
“I’ll do it.”
“I’ll be happy to help”.
These words epitomize the heart of a volunteer. I want to volunteer to serve in the Lord’s work until He calls me home or He comes to take me home.
