Understand

This is a big word with some pretty deep meaning. To understand means to perceive the intended meaning of words or a specific concept from other people.  It is often hard to understand why people do the things they do. It is also hard to understand why I sometimes do the things I do. I am often frustrated with myself when I do something dumb and I’m not sure I understand why I did that.  When it comes to understanding God, this can be a very complex situation.  Check this out….

“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”

16 I tried to understand all that happens on earth. I saw how busy people are, working day and night and hardly ever sleeping.17 I also saw all that God has done. Nobody can understand what God does here on earth. No matter how hard people try to understand it, they cannot. Even if wise people say they understand, they cannot; no one can really understand it. (Ecclesiastes 8:16-17 NCV)

God operates outside many of the known spectrums of this world. I don’t quite comprehend all the ways in which He operates. He created all we see, but there is so much that I don’t see and can’t comprehend. I sometimes feel that I understand God because of my journey with Him in His Word. However, I still don’t understand why a child dies of cancer or a mother or father of small children are taken from this life through disease or an accident.  I don’t understand all that God does or doesn’t do. I’m learning every day to trust His heart even when I don’t understand. His Word gives insight to His heart and helps me understand His heart even when I don’t understand His ways.
