Two Rooms
My house has many rooms in it. There’s rooms for bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, living room, office, recreation room and don’t forget the laundry room. For the most part the rooms are being used exactly as they were planned. My office used to be a bedroom. My office is an old historic house and it has multiple rooms as well that have been redesigned into office space.
The Lord gave Moses instructions for the Tabernacle (aka, the “Traveling Temple”) and this would be a sacred place of worship while they were traveling to their final destination. The coverings were specifically made from animal hides. There was special wood for the poles. The Lord gave specific instructions for two special rooms inside the middle area of the tabernacle. Check this out…
31 ‘Make a curtain of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen, with cherubim woven into it by a skilled worker. 32 Hang it with gold hooks on four posts of acacia wood overlaid with gold and standing on four silver bases. 33 Hang the curtain from the clasps and place the ark of the covenant law behind the curtain. The curtain will separate the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place. (Exodus 26:31-33 NIV)
There was an inner part to the tabernacle that consists of two rooms separated by this big blue, purple and red curtain. The two places were the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place. The priest only could enter the Holy Place when he was properly prepared. He couldn’t just wander in and hang out there. He was to go the Holy Place on behalf of the people. Once a year, the priest would go into the Most Holy Place. This curtain in the tabernacle that separated these two place was similar to one inside the Temple (God’s permanent home among His people). When Jesus died, this is the curtain that was torn from top to bottom giving all-access to God. We no longer have to go through the human high priest. We now have Jesus who serves as our Savior and our High Priest before God.
I do think it’s cool to have a meeting place even today where I meet with the Lord. I’ve learned to notice Him everywhere and in every room I enter. The Lord is Presence more than He is about a place. The “Place” He cares most about is my heart – the room He really wants to dwell in. I need to rip the curtain around my heart and give Him complete, unimpeded access.
Pressing On!
