Two Choices

My wife and I had a very memorable Valentine Dinner at the Mustard Seed Café last evening. The Mustard Seed Café is at City Station and is part of our church family. They had a valentine special formal dinner and it was very, very nice. The menu was special and there three choices of entrées and desserts. The food was very, very good. I didn’t mind that there were only three choices, because when I made reservations, I knew that there were three.  I think my life is a lot like that – I know that I always have choices. I can choose to eat those Jelly Belly’s or the Hershey’s kisses – or the third choice might be neither.

Moses was reminding the people of Israel that all our choices really boil down to two – You either follow the Lord or you follow other gods.  In Moses’ last days, he was reminding the people of God that they should ALWAYS choose to follow the Lord. Check this out….

19 “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! 20 You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. He is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” (Deuteronomy 30:19-20 NLT)

I want to ALWAYS choose life. I want to choose life and continue to seek the One Who Created LIFE and gave me life. He has promised His Presence in me. He has forgiven me. He has saved me. He had rescued me too often to count. He is so patient with me. He restores my soul.

It seems like every day, I have lots of choices, but they can be narrowed down to two. I’m either choosing LIFE or DEATH.  Choosing life is the “long game” because it’s eternal. Life here is abundant when I’m obedient. Choosing death involves temporary pleasure but leads to my destruction.  It really is two simple choices, but it’s often hard to make the right choice because the bad choice is often more attractive in the moment than the good choice.

I want to choose LIFE today and EVERY DAY! I want the Abundant Life here on earth that transitions into ETERNAL Life when my days on earth come to an end.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
