Trust
This can be a delicate concept, yet one of the most powerful, emotional bonds. When I trust someone, I let them inside my life and my heart in a different way than the average person. I have a limited number of trust-worthy people that I can manage, so I have to be picky. My wife is certainly in that tight circle, as well as many family members. Business partners are also inside the “trust circle”. What happens when someone breaks my trust? I can honestly say that this is one of the most painful of life experiences. When someone very close to me breaks trust, I begin to look carefully at everyone I trust. Isaiah tells of the people who trusted without a good outcome. Check this out….
5 People who looked to Cush for help will be afraid, and those who were amazed by Egypt’s glory will be shamed. 6 People who live near the sea will say, ‘Look at those countries. We trusted them to help us. We ran to them so they would save us from the king of Assyria. So how will we be able to escape?’” (Isaiah 20:5-6 NCV)
I’ve learned over the years that in trusting another person, I’m taking some significant risk. Sometimes the risk is measurable. To truly love and live, I have to trust. As I’ve grown in my faith, I’ve learned to trust the Lord deeper and deeper every day. He is the only Person whom I can trust and He will not fail me – without exception. I actually learn to trust others again because of Him. He has never let me down and never will. He is worthy of my complete trust. He also helps me to heal when trust between a dear friend has been broken. I’m growing daily in my trust of Him!
