Too Important
I have met people who think they are too important to help others. I have found myself busy at times and I wasn’t able to carve out time to help. I don’t ever want to be perceived as “too important” to help someone else. I want to be attentive to the needs of others as I walk out my faith in Christ. It’s easy to focus on all that is important to me and miss the opportunities to serve others.
Paul is closing out his letter to the church at Galatia and he’s reminding them about gently and humbling helping others. The helping is about my relationship with Jesus more than my relationship with the ones I’m helping. Because of my relationship with Jesus, I care deeply about others. Check this out….
2 Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. 3 If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.
4 Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. 5 For we are each responsible for our own conduct. (Galatians 6:2-5 NLT)
I don’t ever want to come off as arrogant.
I don’t ever want to come off as haughty.
I don’t ever want to come off as full of myself.
I want to be humble.
I want to be gentle.
I want to be kind.
The Spirit of Christ in me loves deeply and cares deeply about others. I’ve been taken advantage of, and I’ve had to call out deceit and abuse. I want err on the side of gentleness and generosity.
My memory verse this week is appropriate with this passage too. Check this out….
26 And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. (Ezekiel 36:26 NLT)
Pressing On!
