Timing

Pocket watch with timing signSometimes timing can be bad and sometimes it can be good. There are times when I’m in control of the timing of something and then there are other times I’m forced to simply deal with the timing.  I’ve said, “Timing is everything”. In certain sports and other applications, timing is the power behind the play. I believe the Lord’s timing is always perfect and planned. I don’t believe He wills or wants bad things to happen, but I believe He make good come out of bad 10 out of 10 times or 100 out of 100 times. I’ve had some bad timing and God made something good come out of it. For Alexander and Rufas’ dad the timing was interesting.  Check this out….

21 A certain man from Cyrene, Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and they forced him to carry the cross. 22 They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”). 23 Then they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it. 24 And they crucified him. Dividing up his clothes, they cast lots to see what each would get. (Mark 15:21-23 NIV)

I imagine that this gentleman, Simon was simply at the right place at the right time (depending on how you view what he had to do) to carry the cross of Jesus. I can imagine the conversation at dinner that night after the rest of the events of the day unfolded. When it got really dark from 12 PM – 3 PM, I imagine everyone wondered what in the world was going on.  Simon could teach his two boys about serving because they saw him pressed into service that very day.

I want the timing of my life to offer many teachable moments to my kids. I want to be an example of serving the Lord whether the timing is right or not. I believe it’s always the right time to serve the Lord.  I want to be willing to carry His Name wherever I find myself.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
