Thirsty
I’ve been at a place before where I was so very thirsty. If I stop by Pizza Hut for a meat-lovers pizza, I will be thirsty for several hours after eating that. Something in pizza makes me thirsty.
I’m also reminded of an episode of Seinfeld when Kramer is given this short bit in a movie being filmed near his apartment. He had one line in the movie and he kept working on how to say it. The line: “These pretzels are making me thirsty!” Thirsty is having the need for water or in a figurative sense, “having a strong desire for something”. King David has written much about his pursuit of God. Check this out…
1 God, you are my God.
I search for you.
I thirst for you
like someone in a dry, empty land
where there is no water.
2 I have seen you in the Temple
and have seen your strength and glory.
3 Because your love is better than life,
I will praise you.
4 I will praise you as long as I live.
I will lift up my hands in prayer to your name.
5 I will be content as if I had eaten the best foods.
My lips will sing, and my mouth will praise you.
6 I remember you while I’m lying in bed;
I think about you through the night.
7 You are my help.
Because of your protection, I sing.
8 I stay close to you;
you support me with your right hand. (Psalm 63:1-8 NCV)
Generally if I’m thirsty, I have pretty quick access to water, coke or good ole sweet tea. Being continually thirsty for God is a good position to be in. As I thirst for more of Him, I will notice His behind the scenes of my life and my journey. I will want more of Him in my life. Thirsting for God keeps me seeking and pursuing Him. Sometimes when my life is wacked out, my thirst for Him is what keeps me balanced. I hope and pray that I never loose that thirst.
Pressing On!
