The Rock
I love visiting the largest rock in the southeast, otherwise known as Stone Mountain. It is a magnificent sight and quite a natural wonder. It’s a fun place to visit for sure. The Lord is known as “The Rock” throughout scripture. When I think of God as a Rock, it’s for the characteristics of the rock. He is faithful. He is strong. He is steady. He has staying power. He is a good foundation. He is durable. He is protection. He is strength. He is a fortress.
This morning when reading through Isaiah, I was reminded of The Rock Who hides me and protects me. Check this out…
7 Then at last the people will look to their Creator
and turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel.
8 They will no longer look to their idols for help
or worship what their own hands have made.
They will never again bow down to their Asherah poles
or worship at the pagan shrines they have built.
9 Their largest cities will be like a deserted forest,
like the land the Hivites and Amorites abandoned
when the Israelites came here so long ago.
It will be utterly desolate.
10 Why? Because you have turned from the God who can save you.
You have forgotten the Rock who can hide you.
So you may plant the finest grapevines
and import the most expensive seedlings.(Isaiah 17:7-10 NLT)
No matter what I do or what I become, the Lord deserves all the credit for any success. I gave my heart, my abilities and any talent I might have over to Him several years ago. I am nothing without Him. With Him as my Rock, I can do anything. I was reminded by a dear friend this morning. Check this out…
5 Commit everything you do to the Lord.
Trust him, and he will help you. (Psalm 37:5 NLT)
I want to live my life leaning on “The Rock of Ages”. I want the Protection and the Presence of the Rock of My Salvation. Jesus became known as “The Cornerstone”. The idols of my heart can be crushed by The Rock.
Pressing On!
