The Map
I used to carry a map around in my vehicle, but I can’t tell you the last time I pulled out a map. The electronic maps on my smart phone are much more efficient. Maps have been around for years. A map is a diagram of a specific physical location showing physical features like roads, rivers, etc.… A map can
often give perspective as to where I am located. I use maps at the shopping mall to find the specific store I’m looking for. Before I can get there, I have to find the “you are here” dot.
Over the years people have used maps to give directions. I’ve have used maps to give directions to a specific place or landmark. Now, our culture uses GPS coordinates and the map is simply direction to the coordinates. The Lord directed Ezekiel to make a map for a specific purpose. Check this out….
“Now, human, get yourself a brick, put it in front of you, and draw a map of Jerusalem on it. 2 Then surround it with an army. Build battle works against the city and a dirt road to the top of the city walls. Set up camps around it, and put heavy logs in place to break down the walls. 3 Then get yourself an iron plate and set it up like an iron wall between you and the city. Turn your face toward the city as if to attack it and then attack. This is a sign to Israel. (Ezekiel 4:1-3 NCV)The Lord was letting the people know what is coming by having Ezekiel, the prophet, make a map. I see all sorts of maps in my life that give directions. For example, I write contracts for clients to purchase a house and that contract becomes a “map” of sorts to get to the destination of closing the sale. I also see many relationships and friendships as a map to happiness and joy. The most profound map is my Bible. This is the very Word of God and it is most definitely a road map of how to live life written by the One Who created life! I would be wise to follow it carefully!
