The Lord’s Part

Speedometer - Exceeding Expectations of Your CustomersI know what it means to do my part. In my marriage, there are things that I do that my wife can do, but she allocates it to me. There are also things she does, that I can do, but I allocate it to her. The same is true with my kids. When they were small they could do hardly anything. As they’ve gotten older, they contribute to the work around the house and take care of details that I used to do for them. This scenario plays out in so much of life. At my office, there are things that only I do as leader, but there are other things that I allocate to others, which I’m still ultimately responsible for. I like to see this as a “team effort” or a “family effort”.

I was reminded this morning that there are things that the Lord brings to me that no one else can do except Him. His shoes can’t be filled. His job can’t be allocated to others. Joshua was getting old and the campaign to take the Promised Land was nearing the end. Check this out….

1 When Joshua had grown old, the Lord said to him, ‘You are now very old, and there are still very large areas of land to be taken over….

6 ‘As for all the inhabitants of the mountain regions from Lebanon to Misrephoth Maim, that is, all the Sidonians, I myself will drive them out before the Israelites. Be sure to allocate this land to Israel for an inheritance, as I have instructed you, 7 and divide it as an inheritance among the nine tribes and half of the tribe of Manasseh.’ (Joshua 13:1;6-7 NIV)

I love the action of the Lord. He will take care of the loose ends on His own. He has Joshua assigned the division of the land, but The Lord will take care of some unfinished business.

I was reminded this morning that I can only do what I can do. The Lord does what only He do – which is everything. I’m glad that the Lord hasn’t called me to lead the army of Israelites. I’m fully confident that wherever the Lord calls me to lead that He will equip me to do just that. I want to put my trust in the Lord and do everything in my power because that’s when He shows up and shows out. His specialization is picking up what I left off or simply can’t do. He takes my efforts and multiplies it. He is the Leader and He supplies me everything I could possibly bring to His Team. In my weakness and in my failure – He is Present and Powerful. I know that I have a part to bring to the team and I will be faithful to walk with Him knowing that He’s really got a plan for everything!

Pressing On!
