The Best of Intentions
Intentions are not actions. They are more accurately “planned action”. I have often had the best of intentions on to forget or “drop the ball”. Intentions are often a false sense of contribution to others or a particular situation. You can’t “spend” intention. Action defeats intention 100% of the time.
I think all of Jesus’ followers had good intentions. Their lives were changed by being with Jesus. They were likely not prepared for what was coming next, even though Jesus told them what was about to happen. Check this out…
31 On the way, Jesus told them, “Tonight all of you will desert me. For the Scriptures say,
‘God will strike the Shepherd,
and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
32 But after I have been raised from the dead, I will go ahead of you to Galilee and meet you there.”
33 Peter declared, “Even if everyone else deserts you, I will never desert you.”
34 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, Peter—this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me.”
35 “No!” Peter insisted. “Even if I have to die with you, I will never deny you!” And all the other disciples vowed the same. (Matthew 26:31-35 NLT)
I can relate to the disciples. I can remember early on in life when challenged about my faith in God, I would waver. I was a believer, but unsure. I also didn’t want to draw attention to myself. I didn’t want to be known as a “Jesus Freak”. The longer I follow Jesus, it gets clearer and clearer to me. Without Jesus, there is no hope after this life. He not only brings Peace to this life, but He’s also preparing me for eternal life.
I haven’t denied Jesus in years. I believe He came to earth as a baby. I believe He lived here as a human for thirty-three years. I believe He died for the sins of the world. I believe He’s coming back again. I believe the Word of God. I will not deny knowing the Lord. I am not ashamed of Who I believe in or what I believe about Him.
Pressing On!
