That’s All I Have To Say About That

Obedience Respect Responsibility Words Honor AuthorityThis a quote from the movie Forest Gump. Forest would share something that his mother had taught him when he was young and he carried it to adult-hood. There are times when those words are appropriate to interject. There are times when there are no more arguments to be made; no more discussion because a conclusion or decision has been reached. King Solomon was known for his great wisdom. He writes a lot of the proverbs and then the book of Ecclesiastes. His conclusion was less than exciting, but nonetheless a pretty strong finish. Check this out…

9 Not only was the Teacher wise, but also he imparted knowledge to the people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs. 10 The Teacher searched to find just the right words, and what he wrote was upright and true.

11 The words of the wise are like goads, their collected sayings like firmly embedded nails – given by one shepherd. 12 Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them.
Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body.
13 Now all has been heard;
    here is the conclusion of the matter:
fear God and keep his commandments,
    for this is the duty of all mankind.
14 For God will bring every deed into judgment,
    including every hidden thing,
    whether it is good or evil. (Ecclesiastes 12:9-14 NIV)

King Solomon was pretty clear in his teaching. He wanted everyone to know the things he had learned on his life journey. God is at the beginning and the end of all things. He created all things. All things are subject to Him. He then lays it out…. “Fear God and keep His commandments”.

Obedience to God is the conclusion that the wisest man who lived handed down. This is the conclusion of all his research and study as well as life lived out. It’s almost as if he said: “That’s all I have to say about that”. My role is to listen carefully to the Kings council. I want to obey the Lord in my walking around, being a husband, being a Dad, being a friend, teaching, selling real estate kind of life.

Obedience is the highest form of respect.

Pressing On!
