Teamwork
I’ve heard it over and over that there is no “I” in “TEAM”. There are deep underlying principles in TEAM that are critical to success. For a football team to win a super bowl, they must operate using their individual talents for the greater good of the team. When the announcers introduce them, they are individual who comes from a certain alma mater (college/school) and they are proud of their heritage. As they come together to function as a team, they have one cause and one aim. The success of the team doesn’t usually rise of fall on one individual. However, one particular individual can take their contribution to new levels and therefore inspiring the entire team to greater accomplishment.
After Joshua passed away as leader of the Israelite nation, the individual families had some unfinished business to attend to. There were still some factions and representatives of the Canaanites living in the Promised Land. They asked the Lord who was going first and He said Judah. Check this out…
3 The men of Judah then said to the Simeonites their fellow Israelites, ‘Come up with us into the territory allotted to us, to fight against the Canaanites. We in turn will go with you into yours.’ So the Simeonites went with them. (Judges 1:3 NIV)
This verse jumped out at me as the very definition of teamwork. These two different families became stronger together. There are so many times in multiple areas of my life that I’m made stronger because I’m part of something way bigger than just me. I enjoying being part of helping others succeed. I enjoy being helped to succeed by others as well. There is something that happens in team work –a synergy that never happens to an individual.
My family and I watched a movie yesterday called “The Martian”. It was an intense, fictitious, movie about the rescue effort of a man stuck on the plant Mars. It was amazing to see the teamwork, as the world seemed to come together to help rescue Mark Watney.
I am still learning the value of teamwork in every area of my life. I realize that I am made stronger personally when I’m an integral part of something bigger than me. It is very fulfilling and inspiring. Ralph Waldo Emerson was credited as saying: “There is no limit to what can be accomplished if it doesn’t matter who gets the credit.”
I want to help others become successful.
I want to serve others needs before my wants.
I want so love like The Lord loves me, without condition, ulterior motive or pretense.
I’m made stronger when I set aside my right to be the strongest for the greater good of others becoming strong. This takes incredible strength and courage. It removes the limits to what I can be part of or what my one life can accomplish.
Pressing On!
