Success In Surrender

Hand waving white flag from pile of shredded paperI like war movies especially the ones that turn out with us (US) winning. I love the fighting spirit that compels us to fight for the freedoms we enjoy here in the USA. I wish those freedoms for the world, but wishing doesn’t make it happen. My youngest son has been studying American History and I we quickly reminded of the cost of the freedoms that we enjoy today.

King David was a warrior before he became King of Israel. He was evidently really good at leading and inspiring the men who fought with him. David understood the secret of success in surrender. He surrendered first to the Lord and trusted Him with the outcome of each battle and therefore David was successful because the Lord would go before him. Check this out…

11 King David dedicated these articles to the Lord, as he had done with the silver and gold from all the nations he had subdued: 12 Edom and Moab, the Ammonites and the Philistines, and Amalek. He also dedicated the plunder taken from Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

13 And David became famous after he returned from striking down eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.

14 He put garrisons throughout Edom, and all the Edomites became subject to David. The Lord gave David victory wherever he went. (2 Samuel 8:11-14 NIV)

I am still learning the success in surrender. I’m learning that the Lord can direct my path through the most difficult of situations when I surrender to Him and His plan for me. I can’t always see how it will work out, but that’s where my trust of Him comes into play.

I do believe that there are times to fight and fight valiantly, but that is after I’ve surrendered to the Lord. He will go before me and He will stand behind. He never leaves me in the heat of the battle without His Presence. Who, what or why should I be afraid? I’m confident that He is with me always.

It’s so difficult. Why do I want to help him when He fights for me? It happens much too often.
